Research shows that travel is the greatest form of experiential learning. Travel broadens the mind, improves the ability to bridge social-economic differences, allows for the discovery of new interests, provides an opportunity for personal development through self-discovery, develops the ability to adapt to diverse situations, teaches time management and budgeting as well as builds confidence among other things. Low income minority students rarely leave the neighborhoods in which they live, putting them at a disadvantage of having these life-changing developmental experiences.

Through meeting a well defined criteria, we work to select students to receive one of our short-term travel scholarships.

We work with educators to determine (1) what the criteria for selection should be and (2) the best way in which to narrow the field so as to not make the probability of receiving a scholarship so small, that it becomes discouraging. We make all effort to have different means of submittal, eg. essays, videos etc.

The First Flight will raise funds through direct financial contributions, fundraising events and also accepts donations of airline miles and hotel points. All donations will be used to award short term travel scholarships to students that meet the award criteria.
As a 501(c)(3) non profit organization, all donations are tax deductible.
